The Southern Graphic Design CTE 2 group took home first place in the second annual Klein College Mock Pitch Competition at Temple University on Tuesday, March 10.
Presentations were 15 minutes with 5 minutes for questions. They had been working on their concept since November. Judges consisted of Klein faculty and alum—including former Sixer and NBC Sports analyst, Marc Jackson, and in-arena host, Lee Farrell; 76ers brand manager, Morgan Pivovarnik; President and CEO of the Fund, Kathryn Epps; and creative directors from around the city.
You can see Southern’s winning deck here. Details about the competition are below. Photos and a short video are at the bottom.

Feedback from designers on the project:
- “We were the group that presented as a true team and people responded to that.”
- “I think we came together as a group while doing this.”
- “I just blanked up there for a second but I knew I knew my stuff so I was fine.”
- “I couldn’t tell at all that you were nervous.”
- “[They] went up there and thought they had it, but nope.”
- “I still can’t believe we won.”
- “I’d love to do more big projects like that.”
Their Challenge:
The challenge this year came from the 76ers, who expressed that they are having a hard time attracting 14-24 year-olds. Southern designers researched and presented reasons why that might be, and came up with a trivia game called Easy Baskets that lives in the Sixers’ app to help. Every Sixers game day, a question goes live, and those playing have a chance to win prizes tailored to them. The game’s tagline is ‘We Got You’ because the idea is that the Sixers would take care of you, no strings attached.
Feedback from talking with some of the judges afterward:
- “You were the only team with a fully developed brand guide.”
- “Your Big Idea was the clearest, easiest to understand, and easiest to potentially implement.”
- “That video of V. J. Edgecombe saying ‘Go Birds’ showed me exactly where your head was, and I was hooked.”
- “Using memes was clever and made it easy to understand.”
- “The NBA has a huge focus on partnering with gaming entities right now, so you are spot on with your goal.”
- “The public relations portion was exactly what it should have been.”
