Leslie Burrs ’70

Leslie’s music fuses classical and contemporary traditions to a new idiom he defines Urban Classical Music. This combines classical, Afro-American and cotemporary idioms. The gifted flutist/composer captivates audiences across the United States and in Europe.
He’s served as an artist in residence at major universities including University of California- Santa Cruz, University of Pennsylvania, Clemson University to name a few. Mr. Burrs served on the Music Advisory Panel of the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts.
Author Hidred Roach’s two volume history book, Black American Music, Past and Present, cited Mr. Burrs as one of the ‘space age generation’s new musicians who expand its techniques to embrace all musical styles and disregard labels or trends.”
