Lance McFadden ’56

Lance McFadden was part of the City Championship Junior Varsity basketball team in ’54. But in baseball with brother Brian, they were the power of high school baseball in the mid ’50’s. They beat North Catholic for the ’54 City Championship. Lance was MVP of the game. He was athlete of the year at Southern. One of his records was 17 strikeouts in7 seven innings one game. He signed a pro contract and played in St Louis Cardinal’s Farm System in Iowa where he settled. Graduate of the Virginia Banking School, he established himself in the insurance and banking industry; eventually opening his own Bank. He was involved in his community and became a prominent figure in civic activities. Lance was inducted into the SPHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
