Ed is a part of the greatest generation of athletes and scholars in high school history, in the 1940’s. He was class Senator for three years. Ed played JV in ’43 and was a member of the ’44 & ’45 Championship Football teams. He also was shot putter for 3 years. He was starting right tackle for Washington and Lee in Lexington, Va in his freshman year. In 1950, Ed and John Verica started the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at St. Monicas Parish. They expanded from football to basketball and track , then one act plays and various CYO activities. IN November 1989 Ed was given the Holy Name Society Man of the Year Award for various and sundry work done in the parish. In October of 1996 , Gaetano Capuano was awarded the Thomas J Ryan Award by the Archdiocese Holy Name Union. He was the first recipient of their Man-of -the Year Award. Ed still helps out at St. Monica and has been a lector for 10 years. Our executive board is that much more richer by having Ed as such an active member. He co-chairs our annual banquet and were better off for it.
