Al Moccia of the class of 1966 wa a two-sport guy. Football and baseball were his games and he loved them both, equally. At Southern High School he was in the National Honor Society and Treasurer of the athletic Association, in 1965 he was selected first team All-Public Defensive End. Again, in ’65,he was first team Blue Cross All-Scholastic End. Al was the co-captain of Southern’s Public League Champions. He was the second team second team All-Public 3rd baseman in 1966 and co-captained the Southern Team to the City High Championships. Al Moccia attended the Viginia Military Institute and was in the ROTC for one year before entering the U.S. Army as a captain for duty overseas. At Virginia he played freshman football, baseball and joined the track team.
